I’ve traveled quite a bit. Several times when people find out I’m from Arkansas, I’m asked if we wear shoes yet. (sorry you Yankees, it’s usually ya’ll asking :) )
I’m always so dumbfounded that I’d get asked this question. What do you mean, do I wear shoes?? You see them on my feet, don’t you? Who doesn’t wear shoes? I mean the last time I was asked it, was probably within the last ten years. I think that’s fairly recent, considering the question.
Well, now I know why people still think folks in Arkansas don’t wear shoes. See me, step-sister, step-brother all at the Arkansas State Capitol building, barefoot. My sister is the only one with shoes on. (and seriously, if those had been my option, it’s no wonder I was barefoot)
If you’re curious, we did not just kick them off for this photo either. I know there’s at least 2 shots of the three of us barefoot like a bunch of hillbillies touring the capitol.

I am a florida cracker born and raised here. People are always commenting one me being barefoot. I hate shoes! If at all possible I am barefoot always have been. You are right its always the “Yankees” asking or commenting on my lack of shoes.
as a kid, there were no shoes. we ran the gravel rodes barefoot, rode horses barefoot. if we were on the farm, we were barefoot. but I thought we always wore shoes when we went places. guess not!
