Senior Sidewalk 2

I posted on twitter earlier about seeing the Senior Sidewalk for this year’s seniors from my high school. Couple people didn’t know what this was and by some hot luck, I found my picture stamping my name in–

Brady's tball schedule

The sidewalks start up by the flag pole by the cafeteria. Every new class, a new section is poured. Most of the sidewalks are in front of the high school (that’s where mine is). They just keep adding more rows as more classes graduate. The school also includes names of students who passed away far too soon and never saw their graduation day :(

By each name, is a new penny marking that graduating year’s class. That section is my entire class. My sister’s name is somewhere near by and by the time all our kids graduate, who knows where they’ll pouring at! there’s a lot of grass out there, so I don’t think they’ll run out any time soon. :)

Your 30 Dress and Shoes 1

Today I responded to an email that included the words “I’ll be 30 this year!”

I decided that was weird to say.

Then had a brilliant thought. NEW DRESS.

Then I had another brilliant through. WITH MATCHING NEW SHOES.

What’s your 30 dress and shoes look like? I’m on the hunt for mine!

Built like what? 2

Took a 4hr drive to ride a 45 minute long train for the kid. actually, it was more like 5hrs, because my nephew (in the other car thank God) puked twice on the way. anyway, this conversation came up along the way:

Husband: Runners are long and lean. I’m not built like a runner.

Me while popping a starburst: me neither. I’m built like Marilyn Monroe. I should lay around on a couch and let people take pictures of me.

What are you built like and what should you be doing with your frame?

Authors Against Bullying 0

(Post taken from Mandy Roth with permission)

( A message from Mandy M Roth) If you’ve been following online media at all chances are you know who Amanda Todd is. She is the Canadian teen who committed suicide because of bullying. She posted a Youtube video that told her story. The comments on the video and the web have managed to both warm my heart and horrify me. Some commenters have made such hateful and vicious remarks about her taking her life that I won’t credit them with repeating them. It’s not just a few, but many disgusting negative things being said. I refuse to believe these people speak for the masses. I have to believe the majority of us don’t think “she deserved it”. And I’m guessing most of us are sickened of the stories we hear about bullying. Many of us have had our lives touched by bullying in some form. It changes you. You can often feel isolated, desperate and lose all hope. That’s a dangerous place to be.

Without hope.

I’m not the only author who feels this way. In fact, a group of us have gathered together to stand united against bullying. We want those who are victims of bullying to know they are not alone and there is hope. On Friday Oct 19th Authors Against Bullying will be posting to our blogs, letting the world know we are not okay with bullying. We ask that you help us spread the word, that you join us on this day, read our posts, hear our stories and comment. Share your stories as well. Open lines of communication to help bring bullying to an end. October is National Bullying Awareness Month and we hope all of you join us in standing up against bullying.

Join us, Authors Against Bullying, on Friday Oct 19th. We will be blogging and taking a stand against bullying.

*Each authors’ opinions on bullying are their own and do not necessarily reflect the views of all participating.

Want to know how you can help? Easy… help us spread the word about what we’re doing. Tell your friends. If you can, stop past each blog and try to comment, even if its just quick to show the world we are united against this. If you have a story about being bullied or bullying has touched your life in some way please do share it in the comment sections of the blogs this Friday Oct 19th, or even post to your own FB, blog, etc. We want people talking about this. We want those who are being bullied or who have been bullied to know they are NOT alone and they do MATTER. You are ALL welcome to use the Authors Against Bullying graphics to help spread the word about our cause. I’m adding a smaller one here. Thank you so much for helping us try to make a difference.

Here is the author coding in HTML format for anyone wanting to help spread the word.

Just going to throw this out there. 6

I share my office space with a bowflex that’s more closet than fitness equipment. There are three deer heads hanging above me and all shake when the kid plays hard. I live in a constant state of fear that one day one will fall off and my obit will say Taxidermied animal got it’s revenge! …even though the dead animals are not my doing. But you all know how the media likes a good story.

My vacuum cleaner is just behind me and a few Christmas decorations that somehow didn’t get put back up last year also share this space.

Why? Because I live in a tiny, single-wide trailer. Let me assure you, I’ve never paid for reviews. Because if I have that kind of money to waste, I would have a big house. With my own personal beach and combination theme and water park.

And even if I had those things, I’d rather live in my single-trailer with these creepy dead animals than do something so disgustingly underhanded as pay for reviews.

New…things! 0

First off my good friend Lanie Jordan is guest blogging over at my group blog. She has giveaways of her new YA Urban Fantasy release that you are going to want! This is her first ever guest post, so show her some love please?

Now. New Things. Do you see anything new? This would imply that you’ve been to my website a crap ton to notice a change. And I’m doubting any of you have. That’s okay tho! That’s why I blog . So I can be all in your face with new information instead of subtle. Unless I want to be subtle.

And I have been subtle on my website. For weeks now. *does that wrist twisting chuckle with hunched over shoulders*

So, see anything new? Look in the menu. I’ll wait. Be sure to come back!

Yes, I have a new name coming. As soon as October! Gotta tell ya, it’s been hard sitting on this. And I’m afraid I’m only tossing you scraps here. Remember my friend Lanie? Go comment on her blog post and next week I’ll share a little bit more about Charley Colins and her first release!

Oh! and yes, Rough Play releases in just a couple weeks!! So excited for Jacob and Flora!

Cottage Cheese Oatmeal Bake 0

I have no idea what else to call this. I picked up 0% cottage cheese, telling myself to get over the looks and TRY it. I went for the 0% for the low calorie content. If I can’t have it for low calories, then I’m not going to waste  my time with the fully-loaded varieties. I googled for ways to do this and some delightful person likes adding strawberry jam to hers and spreading it over a bagel. Claimed it to be like strawberry cream cheese.

Omg–I LOVE strawberry cream cheese, I thought very smartly to myself. I’ve learned that bread doesn’t really encourage weight loss, so I’m off those fluffy kind of carbs for now. but I still like cream cheese! So I tried it. It doesn’t taste like strawberry cream cheese. HOWEVER, on a toasted bagel? I could see this working. When you’d have the crispy bread to mix with the cream cheese curds in your mouth. But as the mix alone? I tried. The taste was fine. The cheese curds were too firm. I felt like I was swallow handfuls of frozen peas. I tossed it in a blender thinking it would be like a smoothie. It came out just like that. Like a smoothie….with grains of sand in it. *sigh*

Before buying, I knew I could do muffins and pancakes, so I was determined! Again tho, there’s that whole bread issue and flour, yadda. I came across a recipe using whole rolled oats tho. The recipe originally called for a banana and a tsp. vanilla. Since I didn’t have a banana, I left that and the vanilla out. but I think it would work as a really good with those ingredients added in.

When I made this, I halved the recipe since it was just me. Honestly, I could have eaten just 1/2 of what was cooked! so when I do it again, I’ll do it even smaller

1 Cup Rolled Oats
1 Cup Cottage Cheese
1/4 Cup Egg Whites
1/4 Milk (I used almond milk, came out just fine)

Preheat oven to 325*

Mix all your ingredients. Spray a small oven safe dish with nonstick spray. Pour the mixed ingredients in and put it all in the oven!

(forgive the picture. I must have held my camera at a completely weird angle) Let it bake about 15 or so minute. You can see where I tested a piece off the side to make sure the liquid cooked.

Yay! all the firm curds melted! I put it out on the plate and wasn’t sure how to eat this thing. It tasted very similar to plain oatmeal or plain grits. I broke it apart and topped it with different things with varying success

Honey topping was my least favorite. It just…I don’t know. It didn’t work for me.

Since I was reminded of grits, I tried butter and salt. My fav way to eat grits! didn’t really work on this. maybe if the butter had baked in it from the beginning. (I don’t know why it looks upsidedown. It’s not. I don’t think.)

I tried a little Jam. It was just okay. I would eat it again this way. (I think this is the worst picture taking day I’ve ever had in my life)

I also topped with cheese. Definitely the best way to do this, I think.  I will do this again, and I’ll just top with cheese next time. With the ingriedients/brands I used, it was about 155calories (before the toppings). that’s not factoring in how calorie content changes as it bakes. I don’t go that scientific.

I like Valentine’s Day 2

**BRAKES! Before I get to my post, want to let you know how you can win a copy of my book! Cynthia D’Alba is giving away Uninhibited in Apple Trail, Vol 2 on her blog tour! Click to leave a comment!**

Now, back to Valentines. :)

Oh yes I do. Love it. There’s some haters out there, hating on the holiday and I just don’t get why. Yeah, yeah, I’ve heard the excuses. You shouldn’t need a day to be romantic. Don’t buy into the hoopla, ect, ect, ect.
But…simply put, I don’t care. Because I LOVE VALENTINE’S DAY. I love that because it’s Valentine’s Day, it’s easier to get the kid to bed on time and watch a movie while eating popcorn or a box of candy.

I love that because it’s Valentine’s my husband will often bring me crab legs home and tolerate the smell with hardly a comment.

I love that because it’s Valentine’s, I get to think up something special to get my husband when in all honestly, I probably wouldn’t take the time otherwise.
I love that Son is dead set on buying me flowers because it’s Valentine’s Day. And not any flowers. Special blue flowers like he got me for Mother’s Day last year…that daddy forgot to water while I was out of town and they died.
I love that a *month* ago, I put back a toy Son has been dying to have because it’s Valentine’s Day.
Could we do all these things if it wasn’t Valentines? Sure. But would we and how often? And we did these kinds of things all the time, how special would they be?

Anyway, that’s my take on Valentine’s and why I love this mega-marketed-hyped-up holiday. What about you?
